The West Interpersonal Perception Lab

We use a multimethod approach to examine dyadic and group interactions, focusing jointly on people's behaviors and physiological responses.

We ask questions such as: How does status and power affect how much people persuade each other? How does being a newcomer within a group affect how much influence people have over their group? And when group members are persuaded by newcomers, do they show "physiological linkage" to those newcomers?

Our field studies include interactions between tutors and students on the day before a stressful exam, minorities and Whites in everyday interactions, patients and physicians in the doctor's office, and interactions between CEOs and project managers in organizational settings.
